Cara's grandfather was the late post-World War II Filipino senator Raul Manglapus, but due to economical reasons, they were exiled to live in the United States during that time of Martial Law. Cara was born there in the US, but eventually moved back home to the Philippines to study.
After finishing her course in Ateneo de Manila University, the young jazz singer worked as international correspondent for The Japan Times and travelled to over 20 countries, including the United States, China, Brazil, Czech Republic, and Sweden.
Though most people work to travel, Cara realized that her ambition was to sing. Following that realization, Cara moved back to the Philippines and joined the Jazz Band where her grandfather used to father, and the same band her father plays up to this day.
Apart from singing Jazz music, Cara has another band which plays contemporary music.
